coming soon: lots of exciting recipes and whatnots but for now, i am in the process of recovering from a pretty major surgery (but doing very well!) (more on this soon) so here are some things and some stuff, just for you!!
- planning a trip to spain any time soon? bring me with you. but also, here’s the best vegetarian and plant-based food in barcelona
- the first thing i’m going to do when i go back to living near friends is host a soup swap!!!
- “this idea — the romance novel as ‘guilty pleasure’ — does seem like just one more way to disparage, dismiss, and discount women’s stories, equality, needs, and desires. After all, aren’t we socialized to believe that most, if not all female pleasure, is ‘guilty’?” or: why romance novels should be part of your regular feminist reading
- having lived a past where i would bring hummus for lunch in elementary school only to be met with quizzical looks and faint glimmers of intrigue by my classmates. i say bring on this future where everything is made of chickpeas
- dogs, am i right? how dogs know when you’re sick
- plans for the near future probably involve driving an hour and a half each way to obtain the plantains i need for these roasted cauliflower and plantain tacos.but it’s fine.
- luckily snuk foods exists so those of us who live in the middle of nowhere can stock up on maybe not plantains but a huge selection of hard-to-find ingredients from all over the world. mapo tofu of the “missing only one of these ingredients? then don’t even bother!” variety has never seemed more make-able
- the joy of eating cinnamon toast as an adult. just eat the damn toast!
- “they tried to get rid of us and we survived, so let’s eat!“
- in an effort to live my very best life ever, i’m tryna start making big, beautiful breakfasts as often as possible. plans include spiced chickpeas with crispy pita, yogurt, and brown butter and roasted squash and grains with tahini-honey. but i’m very open to suggestions
- and i’m also very very very much looking forward to breakfast: the cookbook when it comes out in may
- hello it’s almost strawberry crostini season, just as a psa
- “alone, i could be the eighty-year-old i always wanted to be.” it’s true that eating good food with good friends is my greatest joy on this planet earth, but second only to that is probably eating alone with a happy little book. life is good a lot of the time.
- parmesan gelato on red wine toast, anyone?
- for some light reading, there’s forgotten books, “specializing in the restoration of old books, both fiction and non-fiction.” the cooking section in particular is worth pouring over, featuring gems such as the golden rule cookbook, a book of meatless recipes published in 1912; substitutes for flesh foods, a vegetarian cookbook with a super appetizing title; and a book of unusual recipes, many of which weirdly don’t seem all that unusual

i hope you’re all having wonderful marches

I’m pretty sure I saw plantains at the Luray Walmart recently… not sure if they’re “good” ones or not, but just sayin’ …
